Toyo Advanced Technologies Develops "TVM-10-CH", Compact yet Capable of Machining High-Hardness Materials With Precision.

Toyo Advanced Technologies Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minami-ku, Hiroshima City, President: Yoshiaki Hongo) has developed the Compact Hard-cutting Center "TVM-10-CH" that can rapidly machine high-hardness materials with precision with a compact machine size (width: 910 mm), and the company is currently accepting orders for the machine.

The TVM-10-CH is a specialized model for machining of precision molds and parts with angles of 100 mm or less. The main structure provides symmetrical shapes in both X and Y-axis directions to allow for a high-rigidity logical layout in which the spindle is driven at its center of gravity. The machine also incorporates the high-speed high-rigidity spindle technology, all-axis high-output linear motor drive, high-resolution scale, and similar features Toyo Advanced Technologies has accumulated through the production of internal grinding machines.

  • Due to this, the machine can provide shape accuracy of 1 μm or better and hole spacing accuracy of 0.5 μm or better. The machine can provide mirror finish to high-hardness materials. Moreover, the high-output linear motor and lightweight construction allow for a maximum acceleration of 2G, while the 60,000 min-1 spindle developed by Toyo Advanced Technologies provides machining efficiency that is equal to or better than general mid-size machining centers.

The following are the main features of the TVM-10-CH.

High-Precision Machining

The bed, column, table and spindle housing have all been provided with totally symmetrical shapes (X and Y-axes), and a center-of-gravity drive has been adopted to reduce torsion, vibration and thermal deformation during machining. Additionally, the X, Y, and Z-axes have been provided with an optical scale with 10-nm resolution (optionally 1.25 nm), as well as high-rigidity low slide-motion roller guides. High-precision machining of high-hardness materials has been achieved. Moreover, the work contact sensors and laser sensors (both are optional) have been assembled in a manner unique to Toyo Advanced Technologies to create a Z-axis direction thermal deformation eliminating system.

High-Efficiency Machining

High-output linear motors have been adopted for the drives of all axes and a lightweight structure has been achieved. Due to this, a high acceleration speed, which greatly affects machining capability in the microscopic region, of 2G for each axis has been achieved. Additionally, the machine is equipped with a newly developed high-speed high-rigidity spindle for the Z-axis that provides a maximum speed of 60,000 min.-1 (end face shape HSK-E32) and a maximum output of 17.4 kW.
Considering that general mid-size machining centers can only achieve an acceleration of 0.2G and a maximum speed of 20,000 min.-1 if using a φ1 mm tool for φ2 mm column machining, this machine can provide speeds that are three or more times faster (metal removal amount) than other machines. Similarly, speeds that are nine times or faster can be provided if using a φ0.5 mm tool, meaning that this machine can outperform (in terms of productivity) mid-size machining centers in micromachining.

Space-Saving

This machine saves space with a size of 910 mm x 1,820 mm (W x D), and a footprint of 1.7 m2. The adoption of a upper/lower folding front cover maintains a work space of 580 mm for the opening section allowing for machine use even in space-restricted areas. The Y-axis can be moved forward by 80 mm during setup procedures to provide a layout with excellent workability and serviceability.
