Development of the Horizontal Internal Grinding Machine (Centerless Type) THG-15S
― Exhibit of three grinding machines and the IoT technology at JIMTOF2016 The 28th Japan International Machine Tool Fair ―
Toyo Advanced Technologies Co., Ltd., (headquartered in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City and led by president Nobuhiko Narisawa) developed THG-15S, a horizontal internal grinding machine (shoe centerless type) and displays it at JIMTOF2016, the 28th Japan International Machine Tool Fair, held at Tokyo Big Sight from this coming November 17. Three machines in total will be shown at the exhibit with the theme of "The Next Grinding Solution – Uncompromisingness toward ultimate accuracy ": the THG-15S, the general-purpose machine T-11JB for automation in combination with robots, and the vertical multi-face grinding machine (shoe centerless type) TVG-20S-2S, which was released last month. The latest IoT (Internet of Things) technology is also on display.
The newly developed THG-15S is a compact horizontal internal grinding machine, and this further evolved model is a successor to the T-11LB, the best-selling shoe centerless type machine. Workpieces up to a maximum outer diameter of 150 mm can be processed stably with high precision and high efficiency.
While the machine is based on the T-11LB, which has received high praise as a high precision, high efficiency machine, the fundamental structure has been reviewed and the mechanical rigidity has been enhanced to improve basic performance. In addition, an oil pan is placed on the bed and the coolant ejection port is positioned away from the machining point, achieving a structure that avoids thermal influences. A special cast metal is adopted for the dresser base to increase dressing accuracy to condition the grinding wheel. Integration of the high-speed spindle with a maximum rotation speed of 3,000 min-1 and a high-resolution servomotor realizes more precise, productive processing. Moreover, numerical control of the loader and gauge drives eliminates hydraulic components, and non-grinding time and adjustment time due to setup changes can be shortened significantly. These points not only enable mass production but also high productivity for variants and variable quantities.
The machine features simpler maintenance, in addition to precision and productivity. The door on the machine front can be opened wide for easy maintenance of the spindle and neighboring parts. Additionally, the rear door of the machine is detachable to facilitate maintenance of the cross feed and the wheel head.
The base machine is the T-11JA, a horizontal internal grinding machine acknowledged as a general-purpose machine, and a new control unit compatible with IoT and a six-axis robot for loading are mounted. The machine cover is renewed so that the installed robot does not spoil workability and the robot is placed on the top part of the machine. The workpiece can be attached and detached easily even when the spindle is swiveled, which is considered difficult in the case of gantry loaders. This not only allows use as a manual machine but also fully automatic processing. The use of collaborative robots for transfer will also be presented at JIMTOF.
This is a new product just released last month and appears in an exhibit for the first time. The latest model of the TVG series with adoption of the spindle travel mechanism is a compact vertical multi-face grinding machine of the shoe centerless type. The show model is equipped with a turret device containing two wheel heads for inside and outside diameters, an ATC that houses six grinding wheels, and an automatic shoe offset switch device to enable internal and external grinding. At the same time, the combination with robots and transfer devices realized multiple machining processes for the inside and outside diameters with a single chucking action, as well as the unattended production lines. The (chuck type) TVG-20C vertical multi-face grinding machine has already gained an excellent reputation with customers.
We suggest the solution using IoT technology with the latest CNC unit Toyomatic 5000i as the base. It is planned that various solutions are demonstrated at the JIMTOF site, including the function of real-time diagnosis of a remote machine (CNC unit) connected over the Internet line, and network-connected machines in a plant for monitoring the operation state as well as failure prediction and visualization of the sharp edge of grinding wheels.
